Scout
by Marilyn J. Alcock
Scout is a delightful little pup of uncertain heritage who finds himself in trouble after escaping his yard and following his nose down the street into unknown territory.
His sweet personality unfolds as he tells his story of becoming lost in the city, living under a bridge, the dogcatcher, friends at the shelter and finally finding his fur-ever home.

Excerpt: “We huddled in the corner of our cage, and I calmed the guys down so we could all behave as we had been practicing. It wouldn’t be good if we were too excited and blew it.”
“Okay, this is your big moment. There are a lot of people waiting to see you. Let’s go out and meet them,” the kennel guy said as he fastened leashes onto our collars. It was then that I realized how many dogs were living there. Big ones, little ones, in-between ones, and they were all coming out to see the humans.
“Oh boy, this is gonna be tough with all these dogs out here,” I said to Pit and Mutt. “We have to really show our best attitudes if we want to be chosen.”
“Okay, show time,” barked Pit.
“I’m really nervous,” yipped Mutt.
“Good luck, guys!” I quietly said to them. “Remember what we practiced.”
