Meet Anna Taube Fand
Meet Anna Taube Fand…
Anna Taube Fand was born in Uzbekistan, where her small family of Holocaust survivors had fled during the war. When it ended, Anna, now four years old, her parents and older sister emigrated to the U.S., settling in Paterson, NJ. Her brother was born one year later, and now they were a family of five.
She spoke Yiddish at home while becoming fluent in English during her first few years of school. Anna often reverts lovingly to her first language by inserting expressions like “Oy Vey” and “Mentsh” into her conversations and stories.
Graduating from William Paterson University with a B.A. in Education, she taught sixth grade for three years. The next ten were spent as a stay-at-home mom, after her children Beth and Peter were born.
Teaching jobs were at a minimum when Anna was ready to return to work. After considering her options, she chose to utilize what seemed to be a natural ability with words. She worked for twelve years as a Communications, Marketing and Public Relations specialist for a large New Jersey banking organization, and then held a similar position within a worldwide pharmaceuticals company for 20 years.
Her jobs also involved many community volunteer and outreach activities to benefit charitable organizations. Over the years, she served as an officer of the Maplewood Civic Association, Lions Club, League of Women Voters, and Jersey Animal Coalition.
After retiring, when a friend invited her to join a local creative writing group, Anna began composing short stories and observational fiction based on real-life and family-oriented experiences. This opened her eyes to a new and different world of expression, which she enjoys immensely.
Anna and her husband of many years, Farrell, recently moved from their long-time home in Maplewood, NJ, and now live in Monroe Township.
